well see i ordered 4 cories form my pet shop, expected to be the same size as mine, but it wasn't it was like a adult sterbai well, i still got it and released it into the tank, the day before i had done a water change, and this morning i found cory eggs, i currently have a 10 gallon tank with nothing in it so i'll put my baby cories in there but for now i'll put the eggs in a bucket with a air stone to make sure it get's aerated? (sp) then i'm going to put the fry in the tank.

i will give the 4 cories back to the pet shop because they are too big, i want the cories raised by me, but i am keeping the eggs :D (is that like bad?)

If you can pull it off, C. sterbai is worth some $. B)
yea i think i can't keep all 300 sterbai cories to myself!!!

btw i'm going to another fish store to order them :D

Hi kevin007 :)

Congratulations! Sterbai fry are indeed worth a few dollars! But it will be a few months before they are big enough to have value. They tend to be among the more slow growing corys and they need to be carefully taken care of.

Here's a link that I wrote to another member who found eggs in their tank. If you scroll down a bit you will come to a post where I talk about setting up a breeding tank. Why not read it for starters and then ask any questions you might have.

You will also have to think about feeding them. What do you have in mind?

yes this is what i plan

1. put eggs in bucket with air stone water and heater

2. put babies in a bare 10 gallon tank with a sponge filter or box filter and of course a heater.

3. feed it newly hatched brine shrimps and crushed flakes (is this ok?)

4. posts picture for all to see! :D

Inchworm thank you for your link, my calculated cost for the whole project is less that $30 ca...and some questions

1. do you think i should use a bubble wall instead of a air stone

2. should i put the eggs right on top of the wall? so that the bubble will hit the egs directly? or is it good enough even if i put the wall anywhere in the bucket?

3. do i still need to use the wall/ stone even after the fry hatches?

4. how many cms of water should i fill up?

10 gallon tank - have so free

heater - $20

filter - $4-5

airstone - already have

so it's only $30 and i get to raise my little cory fry then i'll sell some of them, or i could get a humongous tank an d make a whole school of cories! :D

so far, none of my eggs fungused but i didn't add methylene blue?

i just cannot find them! :grr:

Hi kevin007 :)

I don'l like the idea that you cannot find them. If you have left them in a community tank, they might have been eaten.

If you find any, I'd suggest you set up the tank, bare bottomed and with an airstone, and put them directly in there. The less handling the eggs and fry get, the better off they will be.

You won't need a bubble wall, just a good steady movement of the water around the eggs. And Methy blue is not needed, but I usually put some in just to be on the safe side. After they hatch, you can reduce the flow of air by using a valve that can be bought at the lfs for around $3. After a week or two, you will then want to replace it with a sponge filter.

Oh, one more thing about fungus..... It will probably happen to some of the eggs no matter what you do. This is natural and will happen to any eggs that have not been fertilized. Don't worry about this, they will usually be hatched before it becomes a problem. Then you can just wipe them away.

I don't understand what you mean by, " how many cms of water should i fill up?"

Please respond and let me know if you have found any of the eggs. Even if you have lost this batch, you have a pair of breeders who will, in due time, give you another batch. You will want to set up the breeder tank and put them into it so that you can begin conditioning them for the next time.

what i ment is that i cannot find the methylene blue, not the cory eggs (phew)

and i want to know how much wter should i fill in in the 10 gallon tank -_-

do u mean that i can just leave the air stone in there? even if the bubbles doesn't hit the eggs? (this is what i am doing now)

I have found it is easier to keep the cory adults in a species only (breeding) tank, when you find that they have spawned, remove the adults to a separate tank instead of trying to move the delicate eggs. Then just follow Inchworm's guide as per sponge filters and feeding.

Hi kevin007 :)

Fill the tank all the way up.

The bubbles don't have to go directly over the eggs. Just be sure that the water is circulating well all over

Any fry yet?

yup 80% of the eggs hatched!!! and i didn't even use methylene blue because my lfs dont have em, i am currently feeding them brine shrimp 3 times a day

is that good? :/

Hi kevin007 :)

Congratulations, you did a great job!

You might want to feed them some Liquifry for a while to supplement their diet. Are you sure that they are actually eating the brine shrimp? If they are, you should see their bellies turn color. If you don't see this on all of them, then you can assume that some are too small for it and need the Liquifry longer.

You are doing fine, but I want you to know that you will lose some of the fry. This is natures way of getting rid of ones that are not entirely developed or who are weak. Please do not be disappointed when this happens. Also, some of the fry will grow faster than others. There is nothing that you can do except to be sure that you still feed food that is appropriate to their size.

Now, you will need to do partial water changes daily. This is important and is well worth the effort. Be sure to vacuum any uneaten food off the bottom; of course, not if it is still alive.

You will also want to keep the air circulation up, but not so much that the fry have trouble swimming. I suggest that you get one of those sponge filters and start using it. Right now they are too small for even a box filter. You will not want to use that until they are large en ought that they can no longer be sucked into it.

Keep up the good work and please keep us informed about their progress!
