I placed Oliver in a temporary tank – which actually came included with buying him. It’s a coldwater fish tank – with no flashy added bits. However Oliver won’t be in this for long, as the new tank awaits him. However, he doesn’t seem to dislike his current situation.

Oliver often throws tantrums when I leave the room – as I’m not paying much attention to him if I’m not there. He will follow my finger around the tank (Which is handy if he’s dropped food.) He will greet me when I wake up in the morning, and when I enter the room and sit opposite him. Oliver will be moved to his final home when I can afford it. He’s going in the 60L because I want him to be in a tropical situation.

After constant daily water changes in the temp tank (due to ammonia levels) I finally came across a cheap 60L tank. It was second hand, and had been used for coldwater fish. I bought the necessary equipment and some decoration for it. I had to take live plants from my other tank as my LFS had some terribly unhealthy plants. I’ve used a filter bag over the filter in order to prevent him getting stuck to it – or worse.

To be continued... ~

I am really liking his new home!  He is going to absolutely love it for sure!  You will see a different betta when you put him into nicely heated water with lot of room to roam around.  Depending on the difference in temp of the new tank and in the small tank he is in now, make sure and acclimate him to the temp change so he is not shocked.

Yeah - He's definitely more active! More space probably helps. I was going to put some friends in with him later on, but I actually think he looks quite nice all by himself. (Though some loaches won't hurt).

The temp wasn't too different, as my room is constantly heated. It was about a 2 degree diff, so we slowly added water to when he was in the jug to get him used to it.

Wow what a nice sized tank for him!

I betta he can't believe his luck :D

Lovely to see a picture of Oliver in his new home! Has he stopped flaring at his reflection now?
Beautiful betta, will definitely thrive in his new tank!

Goo ole Oliver, huge home for him.
What about some Amano Shrimp to feed off anything that falls to the bottom?
They are very quick at getting away from a Betta, but will give him some exercise, just make sure there are plenty of hiding places and no where they can get out of the tank!
Where does he rest, on top of the heater?

I see your logic in covering the filter but generally speaking a healthy fish will not get stuck to the filter, it is more often when the fish is weak or already dead that this occurs.

I think Oliver is one very lucky betta! His new home looks great!
He might find it a bit big at first but am sure the improved water quality will more than compensate for that. Hadn't seen the filter cover - well-spotted RCA! Maybe ReiREi was trying to reduce water movement - not sure how that would affect the quality of the bacterial activity tho.
Keep posting pics ReiRei - we all love pictures! lol

Thanks for all the positive comments!
Sherriff - He was flaring at it most of the morning, then the tank ended up misty during the day (perfectly safe - just seems to happen with our tanks.) so now he can't see it. LOL

RCA - I'm considering something in order to clear up the mess, but not fully decided yet. Will wait for a short while till I have some money again. Actually, he rests underneath the Japanese hut, or sometimes behind the plants. I think its really cute how he ducks under the ornament and lies there xD. Yes, you're right in thinking that about the bag - but we put my friends in the tank and it ended up caught. So just being safe really.

Mamashack - Thanks, and yes - the water quality in the first tank was just horrid. Stunk aswell!
