Is that some kind of blackout material at the back of the tank?

It's a polystyrene cup and bubble nest I think?
He is certainly a vast improvement on when you got him! I hope mine looks that good, he's the same colour

As mention above the white thing is indeed a poly cup cut in half and the background is a bin bag cut to measure

where did you get your lovely bettas from?
