I've today found this old (1881) book for sale on ebay called 'The Aquarium', by J. E. Taylor.
If anyone's interested here's the link....

Would be a good read I'm sure, be good to see how they done things like cleaning the gravel, what they used as de-chlor and how often they done water changes. At £25 including postage I'll leave it where it is though.

Oh, as a fish lover and book addict I had to have a bid on that; I need that book!!!

Micko; I don't think they put chlorine in the water in those days; I know it was introduced it in London in 1905; I don't know about other places :)

Fluttermoth, how did I not think of that? Why did I ask such as stupid question? I feel really dumb now.

LOL dechlorinator (as a fish product) is still 'fairly' new.

Things change very rapidly! I was checking through my cupboards the other day and found a couple of pots of ants eggs! There used to be very little variety of fish food back then, until Aquarian came out :p

Oh, we all have those moments ;)
