Shoot, what do I do??

I looked in the tank a minute ago to see where the snowballs were, and there was something sticking out of Katherine's usual cave, so I put the light on and my pair of banjo's are snuggled up in the stone cave together, one on top of the other...I am assuming they are gonna make babies...?

I looked it up on line, they say they will make about 3000-4000 eggs and guard them until they hatch.....then what do I do?? It says to take the parents out - but it's my only sand tank, I can't really take them out. Are they or are the other occupants going to eat all the babies - if indeed we get babies...

And where do I get rotifers from? I had not heard of them until about two minutes ago, now I have to acquire some in a hurry in case I get a bunch of baby banjos!

I am disproportionately excited about these amazing little fish making babies, lol, I only re-did their tank the other day and marveled at how cool it is that the big one buzzes when I pick it up. Oh and I had to pick them up, I wasn't just fiddling with them, I was putting in new caves and I have to make sure I know where they are so I don't dump a rock on their head. They are so cool, I am ridiculously over-excited for them.

Other occs are:

2 x snowball plecs
5 x hatchet fish
2 x brand new tiger barbs (should have been 6 but they only got two in so far).

Unless you actually see eggs i wouldnt worry, the fact that they were in a cave on top of each other doesnt mean they were mating at all. The male will carry any eggs on his under belly until they hatch so if you see either of them with a bunch of sticky orange balls on their belly then you know they have bred, until that time all they were doing was hiding in the same cave.

wow Sue, glad to see they're still doing so well. It must be almost a year now that you've had them. Fingers crossed :good:

Ok CFC, I will contain myself for now...but I have never even seen them interact together in the tank, and they've certainly never ever been in a cave, let-alone been in a cave together.

The fact that they were both in the cave is what got us all jumping about. I keep trying to steel a peep without them knowing I am looking, everyone is back under the sand this morning. I can see tail ends and snouts. I am going to just have to wait and see what happens.
