I am a real newbie to livebearing fish. But I've been reading Williams pinned topics. It sounds like where you see the fry eyes that is the gravid spot.Beyond that I am not real sure how to tell when a certain fish is about to give birth.I have a platie that I thought was going to pop yesterday...but she looks a bit slimmer today.Still no sign of fry though. Not sure if the other fish got them or if I was just misjudging her condition.Sorry not to be more helpful but I am still going over the pinned topic info and hoping also to learn from experience :D

Ah, but can you see the whites of their eyes?

It's only when I see the whites of their eyes that I know that the birth will be within 1 to 3 days. Some females are more transluscent than others and you can't make out a thing.

yes i can see the silver eye with black center, i have another female where i can see the same so does this mean both might be about to have fry?

My silver sailfin mollies never show a gravid spot and they have fry GIAGANTIC compared too the other fry I have seen with dark eyes and a dark body ......Usually they are just huge when I know ...feed her live foods for best growth of her internal fry and chances are she will birth sooner and better
