I wouldn't have thought that they could survive the cold weather, especially the frost we've had recently.

EDIT: Just did a google search and found it, but I doubt it would have been in the water long. You should see how some reports are describing the snakehead:
'This "frankenfish," dubbed the gangster of the sea, is deadlier than a piranha and tends to eat everything that might be in it path--even humans.'

Dont know why everyone is panicking about a single loose snakehead i would only be worried if there was more than one and if they were breeding.

Annoyingly it seems to have encouraged a few people to want US-style 'ban all the snakeheads!!! they're going to take over and kill everything!!!' thing. Which isn't at all fun.

woooooo! morons!

Shall we hunt them with packs of dogs? :hyper:

Yeah, that ban on snakeheads isn't the least bit fun. Hope it doesn't happen to you guys.

I'd put money on it that this time next year snakeheads are banned in the UK.

According to the article on PFK they are already banned in Scotland, does anybody know any more about this, I know some of our Laws differ but i'm surprised at this. Surely it would be even harder for them to survive in the wild in Scotland?

"All species of snakehead apart from Channa argus are currently legal to import and keep in England and Wales, but all are restricted in Scotland."

it goes on to say that the guy disposed of it,without elaborating, fish and chips anyone?

Crayfish are banned in the UK, every species except one, though some of the species banned wouldnt even survive in cold temperatures here. So it wouldnt suprise me at all if they were banned soon.

The red signal crayfish is not native to the UK, and is killing off our fish population and our native species of crayfish.
Just thought id say :p

Back to the snakehead, why dont we all get fishing down where it was caught maybe theres a few more lurking in those waters :hey:

I agree about the Signal Crayfish, that and many others (including Procamberus sp marble) should be banned, its a little unfair to ban them all though, which the exception of one. Lots of other species available in Europe probably wouldnt survive in the wild here.

It wouldnt suprise me if more Giant Snakeheads turn up in the wild soon, judging by their eventual size, some people that keep them may release them rather than contact zoo's, fish houses etc...

I dont believe this story one bit tbh. There is no way even one of the subtropical's like Bleheri would have survived in UK water at this time of year!
