Ok this MAY sound a little stupid but can I feed

They're carnivores and fruit would never be part of their natural diet so I wouldn't reccomend it much.

I would think that stuff like apples would release too much acid into the water and therefore be harmful for eyes, gills, slimecoat, etc.

Why not just give them pellets and some treats, like bloodworms? That's all mine get.

I use a frozen tropical mix on occasion that has bananas and carrots in it. The bettas eat it so it should be ok. But only use a sliver.

My cichlids go bananas for bananas :p So do the loaches.

I wouldn't put fruit into any aquarium; the sugar can cause problems. I had a huge outbreak of brown diatom alage after some sugar from my DIY CO2 bottle made its way into the tank.
