the lady who gave me the kribs tried to catch them for me and give me the smaller babies, as they are usually the females
we couldn't go by the pink belly rule, as the were VERY pale from fear of the net
when i got home, floated them and gradually poured them into the tank, i had to run to the dentist and do some grocery shopping,

i didn't get home till hours later
this is what i discovered....

my flying fox, the dominant fish of the tank and only "mean" one, was cowering in a log
she looked unharmed, but obviously stressed by the newcomers, as she use to be the only non-noctornal fish in the bottom
when i saw the newcomers, i discovered something
when they saw me, they popped out of their little rock caves and revealed their true colours
one (a little over 1") showed a tubby little gut and beautiful bright colours, with a pink little belly (an obvious female)
the other, a duller brown, and slimmer build and white tummy (pretty sure its a male  )

the female kept nipping him and he looked very edgy :X

so this is what i am thinking,

1) should i give her back the male and ask for another female?
2) why doesn't the female like the male?
3) why is she nipping him? she's like a nagging wife
4) are females mean?
5) will 2 females get along better?
5) aren't kribs were large community?
6) are they just like this when they are a breeding pair?

phew :S
thats alot of questions
now don't get me wrong,
i did tons of research,
but the most accurate answers i find are from real people with real experience :*)

OMFG! :<
apparently if there are no females present, then males are community, where as females are little B*tches
that sux cause they are the pretty ones! :-(
would 2 MALES be ok?
i ahve also read not to keep them with flying foxes, but only 1 person said this and it was some random guy on a forum

i shall see how this goes,
if all else fails...
GET ANOTHER TANK!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper:

As I said in the other post I think 2 males would be too much. Females are very aggressive if not with a male I find. My albino female is lovely but I think she's an exception.

Males can be just as pretty as females, IMO perttier because of their exravagent fins. My male is very colourful:

I really don't think that females are community fish to be honest. I'd take back the female and just keep one male. I don't think your tank is big enough for more than that, cichlids are unpredictable.

ahhhhhhhhh :S
this morning i woke up and turned on the light and the one i thought was a male showed her true colours (pink belly)
i guess she was just frightened from the move :dunno:
now i have 2 females
the one i thought was a male is very sweet and calm
the other larger female likes to give her sister a nip every once in a while

the flying fox is back to her she devil self,
she doesn't mind the company in the bottom,
she shares it happily, but she once again nips at the bright golden gourami if she comes down into the caves
this is normal behavior i have been monitoring since i got them, noone is hurt or stressed,
and it only lasts a second, and isn't very often

my khuli loaches tell me if there is any stress or tension in the water,
when i added the fish yesterday, they were hidden in their plants,
but today, in plain sight when they have been bumping around scavenging for food out in the open without a care in the world
everyone looks happy
so this is my plan
i will see how it goes
(i beleive the one female must be a fluke like you said cheese)
if the larger female gets agressive (more then a little nip she gives her sister, the equivalent to bickering) or nips any of my other fish, i will give her back to the lady

wish me luck!

I have 1 male and 1 female in my tank, which i guess I'm very lucky that they paired up and had no trouble....yet! as when they start breeding prob be a different story!!!
