ok...heres the situation

right.............

i got a 2nd hand tank.....used new sand.....60% mature water....25% water that the fish came in from this tank (2nd hand) and 15% fresh treated water and an established filter

the ammonia is up a bit as is the nitrite....1 fish has died but im not sure if this is why

ive got a 10 gal tank with cichlids in it (firemouths, 1 jewel cichlid and a krib)

a 180 litre community tank....matured....original juwel filter and a fluval 4+ filter which are both established

is there anythin i can do to make sure the fish stay alive?

in my newest tank is 5 platties...1 rainbow fish...2 silver sharks and 3 quite big synodontis angelicus i think....they big cats anyway...and 2 cory's

ive also got a new nitrazorb bag that will take the ammonia and nitrite away but im not sure if i should use it yet

Sorry to hear about your fish's passing.

As for the spike, did you test that 25% that was in the new tank? Could it have contained the ammo and nitrite that you are reading now? Another thing that occurred to me..I recently started using Bio-Safe as a chlorine/chloramine remover and it will cause a false positive reading for ammo anyway, I got odd readings for nitrites too with my old Tetra test kit because the ammo test uses a Nessler reagent rather than salicilate. If the previous tank owner used this product, it could be the cause of the readings. Could the fish have been really stressed by the move? How are the others?

i did treat the water with dechlorinator so maybe ur right

i didnt test the 25% of the existin water......the thought didnt even enter my head

ive taken 1 of my filters out of my larger tank and thats now in the new tank....and the filter media from the new tanks filter is in the filter ive just put in to help build a strong bactria ecosystem haha

all the other fish seem fine apoart from 1 cory.....he looks like he's dead but u tap 5the lid n he swims off.....n he sorta lies leanin to 1 side

every1 else looks happy tho

It sounds as if you've done all the right things, hopefully the tank will stabilize soon. I hope the cory is just stressed from the move.
