Why is it that when we find good deals and for some reason pass them up and then later think why did I do that? About 6 months after I got into the fish keeping hobby I could have bought a 125 gallon tank with stand and lights for $125. I didn't buy it for two reasons. 1. It wouldn't fit into my truck 2. My dad reamed me a new one when I told him that I even thought about buying it, Let alone actually coming home with it. That brings me to today. So I was scrolling through the local listings and I found a 150 gallon tank that needs a good cleaning and a seem repair. The seller only wants $40!! Granted its just the tank and nothing else. But I could build my own stand, we even have the wood and hardware in the garage already. But again its the hopelessness of running things past my dad that will probably stop this dream that is oh so close at hand just a little before it even began.
He is away on vacation but comes back tomorrow and you can bet that I'm going to talk to him about it anyways.
Whats the worst that can happen, a very stern no and a few words about how I should save my money that I have heard about a million times before?
Oh no, I'm not going out and buying it right without his ok. I live in his house so this is something that he has to be ok with. 150 gallons of water in my room could be a potential disaster under the right circumstances. Now if it was smaller like a 55 gallon then maybe.. lol He wont mind me asking before I go and do, he does mind me asking after I have gone and done though..
Ah that's good! perhaps if he became more impressed with your current set up in some way and could more clearly see that it's a hobby you are passionate about his opinion may be easier to sway, plus as you mentioned 150 gallon is a lot of water to be keeping in a tank which is in need of a seem repair
I don't think I would want to show him my my set up currently.. I just added a two more fish while he was away and I doubt he will be very happy about that
But he does know that I am very passionate about this hobby. I've had/have quite a few hobbies and most after a few months sorta get left aside as I become busy and such. I plan on selling a few things from other hobbies that I should get out of as I just don't have the time or money. This will probably put more funds into this hobby and my other two main hobbies, snowmobiling and cars lol. But he is quite impressed when I talk about my aquariums because half the time he has no clue what I'm talking about and I'm able to explain what everything is/does. At first I wasn't sure if this was going to be a hobby that I would stick to like some of my other hobbies but I feel that I will have fish friends for a very long time, as it is a very enjoyable and rewarding hobby. I think he has noticed this as well and gets that this is a hobby that I will stick to.
