One of my cories accidentally met his demise today... :/ I was cleaning the tank and took all the decorations out to soak in a bleach solution and didn't notice he was on one of the rocks. I feel horrible!

Sorry bless him. R.I.P.

Ooh, poor thing.

I nearly killed my betta Drew today by putting too much cold water in his tank when I was cleaning. The look of shock he gave me - I felt bloody awful. He's okay now though. :)

You didn't say but let me guess... Albino Cory right?

Sorry I couldn't resist. Scott

Really sorry to hear that.....Why were you bleaching anyway, did you have disease problems? If not surely just a scrub in old tank water for regular cleaning is best? I would avoid putting any chemical cleaner anywhere near my tank. Not a critisism as I don't know all the facts but what a way to go for the poor little sod...a cory too

I was bleaching because the decorations were covered in algae, and soaking them in a mild bleach solution kills the algae right off. Scrubbing just doesn't make them look like new like bleaching does. I've been doing it for years and have never had a problem (until now anyway..and that was just due to my own carelessness). Just make sure you rinse them well and use a dechlorinator, and the bleach doesn't cause any harm.

Thanks to everybody else for your thoughts :)

I clean mine in bleach then rinse really well.
But don't add them back to the tank for 24 hours till they have dryed.

sorry for your loss. .. Catfish just sometimes don't realise they should move off the object thats moving out of water.

Thats really sad.

Next time just scrub them with an old toothbrush under warm water. This is what I do. I steer clear of the chemicals.

Sad story,

I have many rocks in my tank and a forever battle with beard algae.I boil mine when things get too bad and use the girlfriend's toothbrush!
