GGMR... It's a term me and my friend at the pet rat forum use affectionatly... It's the feeling you get when you bring home a new pet rat... And suddenly, you have the urge to go out and get another. "Gotta Get More Rats!" It's a horrible disease...

Well, my friends... I think I have GGMB... Gotta get more Bettas! I brought home my neat lookin' little boy, Berry, a few days ago... And I just keep thinking "Ya know, it's 5.5 gallons... I could very well split it and get another... Oh, and I have that 5 gallon bowl tank the the back yard too... I could get another one for there..."

Does anyone know a cure for this common disorder, GGMB? I feel I'm at a loss. I keep watching my fish, hoping I'll suddenly realize I'm content with my 1 20 gallon and 1 betta in a 5.5... But it's not working. I want more!

Ouch! you've been bitten by the betta bug! you are now infected with a disease so deadly you will not be able to hold back whenever you see a betta :) may I introduce you to http://www.aquabid.com I started out with one harmless fish from petco, and now have.. just.. a ton, some from walmart, some from petco, some from LFS's (local fish stores) and some from breeders, even from thailand, and now recently have a pair of wild Imbellis, and soon to be getting coccina, my girlfriend has recently gotten a pair of Betta Fusca :) there is so much to see and learn in this land of betta madness :) prepare youself   OH! and by the way, We all want pictures of you betta :)

:p I'm poor. so I can't afford fancy bettas online ^_^ Unless I find a breeder within driving distance,I'm limited to what I can afford. If I found an affordable betta, I still can't afford shipping. (though, I suppose if anyone wanted to GIVE me a free betta with no shipping... :p )

I made a post 2 days ago with some betta pictures, but here are a few new ones from just now incase you don't feel like looking for the threat ^^
Mr Berry:

I'm absolutly in love with his colors, and the little double tail ^___^ I really hope they don't fade as he gets older.

My older, red betta is NOT photogenic, but I might try to get a few more good ones later ^_^

^_^ Thank you! I'm always tempted to call him "princess" 'cause he's so prissy ^^ Slowly wandering the tank, sniffing his food before eating, spitting it out and staring at me if he does nto approve. When I walk by the tank, he just STARES at me waiting for food ^_^ Only been here for 2 days, and he's already full of character!

Heehee I have the same disease. Thanks to these forums I am also beginning to suspect that it can be mutated/magnified by prolonged contact with other carriers :look:

Here's a suggestion to at least slow down tank expansion- females. You have a 20g, you said- you might consider getting one of a similar size, planting it well, dumping in a bunch of caves and hidey holes, and then whenever you feel the urge so strongly you can't resist it, you can just add another girl ;) You could probably get what- 10-12 girls in a 20g? If not, somebody will jump in and set you straight :p

Wow. Andie. That is simply brilliant.

Too bad I don't have time or money for another big tank ^_^ Maybe if I get that 55 gallon for my birthday and move my comminuty to it, I can put females in the 20 ^_^

rotfl I totally get the shortage of funds . . . I'm stretching my pennies myself to make sure I'll be able to cope with all the beebees I expect to get from my copper spawn

Birthdays are a wonderful time to upgrade  Even asking for an assortment of cash or gift certificates to the same pet store should make it easy to upgrade your community, and free your 20g up for your ladies. After that, expansion could slow down for as much as two to three years, if you limit yourself to a new girl every few months

I recently got bit again by the betta bug, I was fine for a while, with just 4 bettas, but now I have 8 and a few more coming in the next few weeks. What shall I do! It's a terrible bug, and not only a betta bug, but a gotta have more tanks bug now.

Well hey, if you like plakats I'd only charge you about $5 shipping on a free fish  (can't tell I'm trying to pawn them off on everybody, can you?)

I too have the horrible affliction you speak of. But I mean come on, I've only got 21 adults.... and nearly 200 10 week old juvies :look:
I used to have rats until recently too... they're just wonderful, aren't they ^_^? Mine were hideously cute, thanks to being the hairless variety. One died of cancer though, and I didn't want more rats but didn't want the remaining one to be alone, so I let her go to a new home. I met the girl who took her, so I know she's at a wonderful place :)

:p Well, the good news is, I'm getting 2 more babies from nashnut, and a third from her for my boyfriend! (I figure getting him one is just as good as getting myself one!) I'm soooo excited, I've already set up another 5 gallon, and am going to go buy a 2.5 gallon for right on my desk ^_^

My babies (photos taken ny nashnut, from her website)
