Ok, this has come as a surprise to me! LOL
Have never had much to do with siamese fighters!
I work at an LFS and i did an order for 10 Halfmoon males and the mucked up and sent me 5 HM males and 3 HM male/female pairs!
Was hacked off, wanted nothing to do with females as they never do well on systems!
Kept the 3 girls together and all the boys seperately... i noticed that the white female with red fins was really full of eggs, i had been feeding them up with lots of frozen food to get some weight on them, didnt mean for that to happen
Out of curiosity i had one free tank with a (slightly weird looking male red and white male) and so i added the fattest red female and right away he was doing a hilarious dance! Displaying at her, shuffling forwards, displaying and doing the fish equivalent of the moonwalk and shuffling backwards next to her and displaying...
I noticed he took a bit of a nip at her so i thought oh why not and put the second female in too. Put the white female in with my favourite short finned male. He is metallic lilac with large scales that look dark around the edges so we will see...
But over night i came back to a tank with a long narrow bubble nest (that was randomly spread half up the wall somehow!) and two considerably smaller females huddled in the corner.
The male seemed to have lost interest and the females looked miserable so i took them out again and left the male to it...
By the end of today... just about 24 hours, maybe up to 26 hours after he was doing his display to the females, i was looking at his nest and it looks a tiny tiny bit more solid, like there might be pinprick dots in the bottom row of bubbles
I dont know if i was being hopeful or not as it is completely unexpected as its never worked before!
I have NO idea what happens now though! I doubt this batch will last, i have 2 days off and have writen all over the glass and lid that no one is to touch the tank on pain of death but you know people
But its made me curious to see if i really could do it! No one was disturbed when i mentioned how many empty bottles and tubs and filters i would need LOL
I see a new project coming on!
But just in case.. how long *does* it take for eggs to hatch? and so on... basic info...
