Right, after discoving my giant vallis, Vallisneria americana doesnt naturally corrospond to the area of which my biotope is set, I went quite mad..
Tommorow I am removing the lot. ITs a shame, i really loved the effect it had.,,
im one of those perfectionist.. not Obsessive Compulsive, but im getting there...
SO.. can anyone reccomed a replacement background plant which naturally originates from Brazil or in the amazonian Basin...
also, if possible, could someone give a short list of other plants (non background plants) which will originate from this area...
Many thanks.
Dan

p.s. If you want some vallis, contact me A.S.A.P
I have loads of it. The larger ones are about 3ft long and have a stunning effect when the tips float on the waters surface...
Brilliant plant...
I also have some red giant vallis.. ( i think)
Im not a plant person. But i sure know its vallis. And long vallis at that...

Have as much as you want. Its a rather expensive plant to buy, especially at the size it is now... (3ft)

FREE!
Arnt I nice. :shifty:
Just contact me...

Shame to have to get rid, (is the tank in the sig the one you on about?) yeah it has a really nice effect if it is,

why not ebay the plants (get some £££ for some diff plants if ya want)

there's not that many plants in many parts of the amazon rain forest. some parts the pH is so low (under 4) that plants cant get enough goodness to grow. when the rainy season is on and the rivers flood their banks and swamp hundreds of miles all around the fish are swimming through land plants

Agreed. A lot of the plants in the hobby originate from asia. A south american/discus biotope that was recommended to me is basically a lot of wood in the tank-tall narrow bogwood reaching the surface of the water. Some nice big amazon swords are an obvious choice. Different rivers have different plants... In PFK Heiko Bleher has been writing a series of biotopes.

These are plants from Rio das Mortes in Brazil. Mayaca fluviatilis; Echinodorus martii; Cabomba furcata; Cyperus sp; Hygrophilia sp; Nymphaea sp.
These from Rio Sao Francisco in Brazil. Echinodorus tenellus-pygmy chain sword plant, Sagittaria platyphylla, Salvinia auriculata-a floating plant.

You can get good plants from aquaessentials

Hope this helps

Try Echinodorus angustifolius not sure if it grows in Brazil but is definatly from South America and i think is the closest plant you'd get you vallis.

Well the vallis is going down well...
I think i have about 25 plants...
Im going to have to check on postage and whatever tommorow.
Ill get back to all you guys who contacted me

Can anyone suggest a plant found in the Rio Tapajos?

Also. I have LOTS of vallis left. My previous estimate of 25 plants was significantly wrong. I counted 84 when removing them..

Sorry guys, but i cannot offer free postage no longer. IF you would like some vallis, i am charging £3 which can either be put into a paypal account or sent to me directly by post.
Maximum of 20 plants.
Dan
