I have a shoal of Odessa Barbs and they are nice shoaling aggressive fish. I have pretty much let them get on with ranks and now have a very vibrantly coloured male. Recently noticed a couple of the fish being very girthy and wonder if possibility of spawning? The girthy ones I believe to be females. I understand they are egg scatterers but what is the likely hood of spawning in a 100g tank?

From what I gather, they are pretty easy to get to spawn, but the problem is keeping them from eating their eggs/fry. I believe most move a male and several females into a special breeding tank with marbles as the substrate. When the fish spawn, the eggs fall down between the marbles where the adults can't get to them. Once they have spawned, move the parents back to the main tank and raise the fry in the separate breeding tank.
