My tank is a 40usgal long tank with 4 giant danios(4inches each), 3 corries(3and a half inches each), 2 blue gouramis(5inches each), and a pleco( almost 3 inches). I was wondering what oddballs I could put in there? I like spiny peacock eels and senegal bichirs but I dont know if either of these will work. So what will work?

I would say your tank is about full....or atleast not big enough to add an eel or birchir. If you want to add something then add three more cories and call the tank full. They want to be in a larger group anyways so if you wish to add anything, then try to fill their numbers out :good:

But, I always understock my tanks cause I don't like to see fish run into echother and feel like they can't find a corner of the tank if they want a little space for a bit.

If his tank is 3 feet long it'll work great for peacock eels as far as I see.

your pleco will outgrow your tank. I made the same mistake....

Danios perfer groups of 6+, and are too hyperactive for eels to flourish.

The senegal will eventually be able to eat your corries.

So you have to make a choice if you want to have proper fish keeping here.

Get more cories, or lose them.
Get more Danios, or lose them.

Lose them means back to a LFS or to a friend.

Then we can talk about Senegals or Peacock eels. The tank suits them, but unless you want cory chow or abused eels, no.

It is very doubtfull that any bichir apart from the really large species will eat Corydoras, their armoured scutes and lockable spines in the dorsal and pectoral fins makes them unappetitising and difficult if not impossible to swallow.

I can't see any problem with adding one senegal bichir into the mix provided you remember to get food down to it past the danios. Foods like whitebait or lance fish should be ignored by the other fish but relished by the bichir

A eel would not do well in the tank as it would struggle to feed as it needs the same foods as all the other fish.

So are you saying a senegal bichir would be fine?

Although I wouldn't nessesarily risk it, most don't realise what they can't eat until *after* they've eaten it, and if one has a go you could well end up with a chocked bichir.
