I have an empty 50 litre tank that is just sitting there and i want something slightly more unusual and different in there and not the usual tetras etc I could normally keep. All the more unusual fish I have found so far are unsuitable for a small tank. I would love a puffer fish but they are either too large, too aggresive or hard to find, bumblebee gobies are territorial and need more space etc. Can anyone advise on a suitable oddball fish. I don't mind keeping a species only tank if need be but I would like several of these fish and not just one or two on their own. Thanks

What about a dwarf puffer, you can put one in a 10 gallon thats about what a 50 liter is right. There a sticky in this section about them. :good:

Hi thanks for the reply. I did look at those but like I said before I cant find these in any of my local fish stores. Also, do u mean I can only have one puffer? If you do i'd prefer keeping something that I can have a few of. Having a tank just for one fish seems a bit pointless and not really worth spending loads of money on to buy the additional hood, lighting equipment, heater and filter I don't have for the tank yet. I obviously wouldn't overstock the tank or put too many fish in that can't go in together for one reason or another. If all else fails I may have to just stick to regular old tropical fish but I work in a pet shop and they all just seem so same-y. And yea 50 litres is about 10 gallons.

I found a site dedicated to dwarf puffers and it says that you need approx 2 to 3 gallons per fish so ideally I could have 3/4 in a 10 gallon tank. Hopefully as long as it is well planted to help with the territory issue they should be ok. Its just finding a store that stocks them. If there are any other interesting but small fish out there I'd appreciate the info.

You could always order to! :good:

I thought of that but there are none in my area and the places I did find that deliver don't have that specific kind in! I will investigate a bit more though but its not looking good

When I said order I ment have it sent to your house that way you can order from were ever. :good:

You could easily have 15-20 bumblebee gobies in there, depending on the filtration :good:

I know you can order them to your house but I didn't think they could or it be a good idea to deliver over longer distances. cant be good for the fish? I'm sure it must be or they wouldnt do it i suppose. I like bumble bee gobies but i read that they need plenty of space due to their territorial nature. They'd like something like a plant pot per fish! I suppose they are only small - a pic of them shows a molly looking huge next to one! Yea I like them will look into this and hunt some down! thanks for the advice :good:

your fish travel hundreds of miles to your pet shop every week,

You will find most smaller oddballs are hard to come by so unless your boss is willing to special order them in, (if you stock fish then 90% this can be done) or you know a breeder you may have to think of another idea for the tank

have a look at the smaller leaf fish, or candy stripe goby or even one of the killifish species

I've heard of the Half- banded Spiny Eel, which grows to 6 in. It's definitely an oddball. You could only have one, though. But you could surround it with some other fish. But you'd have to move the eel to a bigger tank when it's older. I also only have a 10 gallon tank, and I LOVE oddballs. Also, the coolie loach looks sort of like an oddball, and they only get to about four in. You could have like 3 of them. And if you haven't seen one, they look sort of like a small eel.
