Hi All,

I am in the process of getting rid of my Malawi setup and would like to stock my tank with oddballs.
240 liters.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Squidward

Trio (one male) of African Butterfly Fish up top
One Leopard Bushfish (Ctenopoma acutirostre)
Six Upside Down Catfish (Synodontis negriventris)
Ten Pareutropius buffei (often traded as "Debauwi Catfish", but they are a smaller [7cm SL] related species which are mid-water tight schoolers)
One smaller species of Birchir? (Sorry, no clue on species or suitability with others)
Six Cameroon Fan Shrimp (Atya gabonensis) once tank has matured six months [although it sounds like you are simply re-stocking a mature system]

Id keep more than one of the Ctenopoma as mine loved to interact with each other :)

Polypterus Delhzi . one of thr 3 palmas or a sengalus
You could probs get away with a group of rope fish

Hi All,

Thanks all for your input.
I went to my LFS yesterday afternoon. And I was quite taken by knife fish. I see in another thread that you say that 55 gallons is too small. My tank is 240L (65 odd US gallons/55 UK). Would this not be big enough?

Thanks

Not for life , id be aiming for 100 -150g for a full grown specimen however it will take a long time to get to a decent size.

Flagtail,

Is this one of the smaller growing species?
How predatory is it?
What would the smallest fish that would be safe to be kpet with it?

Thanks

As far as the polypterus goes, I'd get a polypterus delhezi. They are my favorite polys and are cute little fatties. :)

It's one fo the smallest species, will get to about 12 inch after some growing. Think theyve recorded them around 14-15inch but ive never seen one. Polypterus have terrible eyesite so struggle to catch fast moving fish but to be on the safe side i'd go for at least 1/4 of the size of the fish if not a little bigger. I have a 15-16inch Poly in with a 3 inch tinfoils and i didnt loose any, now the tinfoils are getting large:)
