Odd Snail

Anyone got any idea what type of snail this is? this is the best pic I can get so far,the biggest one is about 1cm,and the babies are almost blood red in colour.The closest I can find online is apples,but I didnt put them in the tank!

cant really tell much from this pick might it be a red union snail ?

My guess would be a type of Planorbid. If you have a pic of the big snail facing the other way that would help narrow down the possibilities more. Someone else posted a Planorbid at one point that looked similar to this one and I thought might be Planorbella scalaris (the only one I'm aware of with such an elongate shell on one side and flattened on the other), but there was never any post back to say whether that ID guess was way off or not.

That looks mighty Planorbella scalaris-ish indeed! I have a serious case of snail envy now. Unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to keep Planorbella scalaris, but the various Planorbid species I have kept (some Planorbis and other Planorbella species among them) have been basically the same, just with varying levels of hardiness.
