I was in a book store yesterday just looking around and flipping through a couple of books while I was waiting for someone.

I came across this "Helpful Hint" book with good information but not really very in depth.

So, one "hint" basically said that you need wood in your tank if you have plecs. This apparently helps them digest properly and without it you could have serious problems. Can anyone confirm this?

Depends on what plec you have. Some do need wood as a nececity, others don't need it at all. HTH rabbut

BNs need bogwood, mine very rarely get off theirs so it keeps them happy

its a good rule of thumb to add some bog wood to any tank with plecos in. many need it. and if they don't it looks nice. incidentally most fish will be happy with a bit of tannin in the water too.
