this week i'm going to be gone from 5pm to 7 or 8am 3 times (friday, saturday, and sunday). would it be better to leave the lights on for 24hours then off 24 hours, then back on 24 hours, then off again to reset my normal timing? or just leave them on from 8am to 5 pm? I usually turn them on around 10 or 10:30am then turn them off 9:30 or 10pm...I don't have corals anymore so i don't think too much light would be too bothersome for a few days :*)

I left mine on for 48 hours one w`end, i had corals. plus me green brittle star goes on the prowl at night, so I left mine on just incase the star got hungry, aswell as me corals. depends on the fish and where ya tank is? i.e next to a window, that would give enough light during the day...

You should get some timer switches and set them for a specific light pattern. Just as it would upset your body clock if you were in constant daylight/constant darkness it will affect the livestock in your tank. A regular pattern will help to establish feeding patterns and more natural behaviour.
