A little sad this morning, Boris has gone to the big fishtank in the sky :(

We finally figured out we had two boys & one girl, last night the female started to attack both males, the other male was fine, he nipped back abit & chased her around, then she left him alone & started on Boris, the poor love just took it, swam off a bit, but didnt fight back.

This morning, we found him floating.

The other male & female now appear to be best buds, they are dancing around together & never leave each others side, is this normal behavoir do you think, for the female to choose a male then try to get rid of the other one?

We were going to move them over to a larger tank in a few weeks & add more DP's but now i'm wondering if I should just leave them alone as they seem to have paired off, if I add more DP's will they fight again?

Damn kari, sorry to hear about this as I new how much you loved your DP's :(

Maybe if you get them sexed in the shop, or sex them yourself? And get a couple more say 2 females and 2 males, maybe they would pair themself?

And look at the tank in the shop, see which seem to get along most with the others and try and get the staff to pick them ones.

Not sure if it will work but hey worth a try.

:good: Good Luck.

So sorry to hear about Boris :-( :rip: little puff

I'm surprise that they have fights so early into their new home, especially they have plenty of room to claim territory. Usually it's the males that get aggressive fighting over territory, female and food but it's possible that you have a dominant female. I suspect that it's a combination of the stress of the move and the fight that killed Boris. My old female lives with two males and she mates with both. Sometimes it's quite clear she has preferences and chases the undesired male off

It's impossible to know whether your female would fight any new DPs. If you decide to move them to a larger tank and increase the number, it might be wise to put them in all at the same time rather than let them settle and add new ones.

Great advice from iSnail :D

SO sorry to hear you've lost a puffer already :( RIP little chap.

I'd be inclined to leave the two of them together, but as iSnail says, always best to move them all in together at the same time to save fighting and erritory issues if you go and put them in a bigger tank.
