Hi, just bought 25kilo of ocean rock. Can i just power wash it or do i have to soak in water before adding to the tank?

Danon, read the label closely. If it contains things to help buffer the pH of a salt water aquarium, it would be a problem in most freshwater tanks. Salt water tanks run about 8.0 pH or a little higher so if its to help them it will cause you troubles. The salt aspect is no problem but if it is a calcium carbonate rock or coral or something similar you will limit what freshwater fish you can have.

Thanks Oldman, there were no labels, just came in a 25kg bag.

I poured boiling water over it and soaked it for about 8 hours.

It has bumped the PH up, from 6.8 to 7.8 which is fine as i want to keep Cichlids.

Thanks again.

+1 on soaking. I hada massive piece in my Mbuna tank, great PH buffer IMO

I was going to say....won't ALL coral raise PH!! I believe it will! When I got my ocean rock I just rinsed it really well. It was full of dust and bits and pieces of rock.
