A few pics of my tank with Ocean Rock as requested :good:

This is a post from a while back where people posted pictures of their tanks, there are some with ocean rocks.

Peoples african cichlid tanks

I actually think that it would make a very good reference pinned topic. Not this particular post that I have just linked to but start up a new one where people can show pics of their tanks and include information such as fish, filtration, substrate, lighting, ph buffering, treatments, rock work etc etc........

But the catch is that you wouldn't be allowed to post replies and comments in the same thread. It would only be specifically for demonstration purposes. AND IT CAN ONLY BE A CHICHLID TANK WHERE THE PREDOMINANT OCCUPANTS ARE AFRICAN CICHLIDS. None of these community tanks with angles, tetras and "a single lab".

The planted section have something similar. members planted tanks

I'd like to get your opinion on this Ferris as if you think it might be a runner I would put together a template and we can then discuss what should or shouldn't be added and improvements that could be made.

Good idea, It was a picture of a mbuna tank that got me started and it would be nice to see them all together.

Some new pics of my tank next week, After having to remove a syno that got stuck down a hole in my ocean rock im changing over to limestone £8.50 for 50kg ! also going to change from crushed coral to coral sand.

Did the syno make it? Sounds like good value for 50kg of rock, looking forward to seeing the pics.

Yeah hes fine lucky i caught it though all i saw was a tail sticking out of a rock.

The limestone was from a builders merchant, he told me he sells some to aquatic store imagine the mark up !

Glad to hear you managed to wrangle the fish out of the rock. I can well imagine if fact I dont want to think about it. Fortunately I have never bought any rock.

Great idea tanks - start a thread and lets see what we get. I can delete any irrelevant posts or ones without pics before it gets pinned so no problems there. :good:

I agree, I think that would be a wonderful idea! When I was getting started I remember having no idea what I wanted my tank to look like and luckily it came out looking good

Great stuff, I will start putting something together and I will post it for your criticism later. Looking forward to some helpful input.

Thanks for the pictures! They look great!

I have a new mbuna tank that I am about to set up hence me asking for pics :)

1. where are you getting the rock from... i.e. what part of the country do you live .. or does the brum give it away ;)

2. what does it look like in a tank? any pics you know of where this has been used before?

3. does it have any affect on the PH like ocean rock?

Cheers
Squid

1. yep from birmingham but you can get it anywhere.

2.You will have to wait for pictures next week

3. I noticed no affects of ocean rock with regards to ph but tufa which is sold as ocean rock in some places does make a difference to ph and hardness, The limestone has exactly the same affects as tufa so a rise in ph and hardness actually tufa is found between layers of limestone some of my rock actually has some tufa on it.

Tanks another excellent Idea . 8) :good:

I think you meant this anyway but can you post a template that must be filled in fully including - Fish list, Filtration, equipment, etc etc. . . a bit like the CF and it will make an excellent topic.

That remind me I need to do a "rock article".

Just posted the template, think its what you meant about what I meant

Yep, empty promises Nick, I have been waiting for your article on rocks for ages, I tell my fish that one day nick will write the article and then they can have the correct rocks. Until then its going to have to be a bare bottom tank.
