Guys
Thinking of changing my juwel 125 to marine
Would like corals soft and hard at some point, could I use half live rock and half ocean rock and let the live seed the ocean?
I have patience and would stock over a number of months with some fish
Could this work?
Also would I need to use a skimmer on this if I water change weekly?
Any advice would be cool!

Yes that would work perfectly.

If you don't have a skimmer you would need some other way to export the nasties (eg. fuge) or frequent water changes. IMO once per week would not be enough without some other method.

Worth having a read of MARC

I thought a protein skimmer was essential in a marine set up?

It is possible to 'get away with it' and many do much more than that (look at LLJ's Biocube).....BUT... it is far easier for a novice to have a skimmer.

I personally would not do without one.

Ok will look into skimmer
Cheers

Ok tank 125 ltr would 2 power heads with a total of 4000 ltrs an hour be too much?.would like to keep corals soft and hard at some point. Or should I use 2 smaller ones?

Most of us shoot for a 20X turnover rate... 125L X20 = 2,500 lph. You do not really need 4,000, but it could be ok. You just don't wanna blow your corals around to the point that it damages.

My tank is 29 Gallons, I do not use a skimmer at this point, but now I have my fish list complete, and the clowns create additional detritus. I will be getting a skimmer next week. I am thinking the Hydor Slim Skim! =) $105 USD

Cheers for the info, Now what would be the best heater could I use the same heater that I using at the moment in my fresh set up?
Sorry for all the q's

You could. Heaters are sketchy sometimes, so people like to use two smaller heaters so that if one overheated, the other would shut off and your fish won't be fried. I have one at the moment, but have two smalls on order =)

Right another q lol
Is it worth using an external filter I have a spare eheim 2213 I could use!

I used one for a little while on my tank, it kept the water sparkly clear, but it collects junk and turns into a nitrate factory. I have not had mine in since new years and it runs great!

Did you have issues with nitrates or did you stop using it before you did?
