I now have a 10 gallon tank (cycling), and while waiting to get this tank I was waffling between dividing it and putting a betta in each side or turning it into a small community tank. I am really leaning toward the community tank.
I would appreciate feedback on my selected fish:
1 centerpiece fish, a betta or a dwarf gourami (I think I want the gourami)
a school of something - here are my favourites:
4-6 neons, or harlequin rasboras, or cherry barbs or other slim-bodied tetras?
2-3 pygmy corries.
What do you think?
Which fish would I put in first, the schooling ones?
The tank has no live plants (perhaps in the future) but several silk and objects to hide in, it has an aquaclear 150 filter and a heater.

The gravel in the tank is a natural gravel, the sizes range from 1/8 inch in diameter to 1/8 inch by 1/4 inch pieces. Is this small enought for corries?

i don't know which fish you should do. but i would put the fish that aren't in a school in first so that the filte can build up bacteria.

Hi DogFish :)

Are you planning on cycling with or without fish? If you are going to do it with fish, I would start with the gourami or betta.

I think the gravel would be OK for corys! They're my favorites, but I wouldn't advise putting them in at the start.
