this was my oto that had pop eye, the eye has gone down and looks a lot better
but look at that tummy! its got huge!! she's been hiding a lot recently, shes in the tank with two smaller boys (at least i presume they're boys they're that much smaller than her) so that tummy could have developed over that time.

shes a bit pale because i only just turned the tank light on and she scarpered a bit, obviously not that easy with a tum like that!

this was her on the 27th October:

help!!

I don't really know :/ perhaps AlexandCarmen might know as they have experience breeding otos. But it might just be constipation - in which case some blanched skinned peas might help.

I have found in the past, if their bellies blow up like that they seem to die.
I'm not sure what causes it though.

Happy birthday. :flowers:

That would seem to be a very gravid female you have there. How many otos have you got? Most of our females look like that now, including the fry who have matured now. We found when they spawned, they preferred to lay on hygropolysperma.

It you look at my link below, I have my spawning diary and I've added some pics recently of my very gravid females, and you're able to see their eggs in their bellies too.

Hope this helps,

Carmen :D

thanks, theres 3 in there, 1 girl, 2 smaller boys.

i was looking at your gravid female last night it looks the same as ones people were saying were ill! so i'm just going to have to wait and see what happens, be a happy ending or a sad ending!

i've put pea in before, but they never touch it.

she's still alive and kicking. been trying to see her but they mainly stick to the back behind the plants. her tummy still looks a little red, but not as red as it was.

:(

she passed away last night, i noticed her in her last throws and managed to scoop her out (otherwise i was afraid Yoshi the betta might have gone at her) and she passed away in a small "hospital" box i use when i see my babies like this. her tummy had gone down a bit, but was still fairly large.
