Hi,

I am a noob to both this forum and fishkeeping. I've had my Juwel Rekord 70 for a few months now and all seems relatively well. I started with a small tank just to see how I get on before spending a bit more money on a lerger setup.

But I do have a some questions...

I have a planted tank with a 4" airstone. I was told that, to help plant growth, I should add a Co2 cannister. By someone else, I was told that this would be cancelled out by the airstone and therefore no benefit at all.

Who it telling the truth? And why is it so important to aeriate the water?

Thanks in advance.

for example when water has been depleted of air through an external filter or fish it needs to be replaced-too much o2 will kill fish.

co2 is used by plants and plants release o2, therefore normally people have 30ppm co2 for a planted tank and the plants generate o2,
with air stones it causes co2 to be forced out.

basic answer someone with a planted tank will say more

yes adding CO2 to a tank with an airstone will be counteractive.
if you want CO2 then you have to forgo the airstone.

All airstones do is create surface agitation so allowing a better gas exchange at the surface
ie CO2 out O2 in.
the only time this is really neccisaery is in unplanted tanks
or when useing medications that absorb O2 like Formalin.

Thanks,

I've just bought a new 340L tank that will be delivered this week. The Co2 kits that I can find are only for tank up to 100L.

Does anybody know of a simple, hassle free, Co2 system that will feed a tank of this size?

just get 2 or 3 of them... or there are larger, much more expensive systems for bigger tanks
