I was wondering if anybody has experience with this kit (ammonia, nitrite, hardness etc) and if they are accurate. I already bought a test kit for $50 Can. after I had read here that API s the best.

I noticed that the ammonia test strip only goes as low as .6, even though smaller amounts are also harmful to fish. Does this mean that if your water is .25 ppm then the water will turn the same color as the .6, only because that is as low as the test goes? I am confused, because I do water changes every day (35-40%) and the color never changes from the same shade of brown.

Also, the test says I have .1 ppm of nitrite (I'm almost at three weeks into fish-in cycle) for over a week now, never really changes either.

I would get a new one, but though I would ask since they are a bit expensive. Thanks!

they are pretty unreliable at best

try api water kit or lfs some will test water for you

I agree. I'd go with API as the minimum recommended. There are also even more accurate options, but unless you're running a reef, I wouldn't bother with the added expense.

Agreed that test strips aren't very good.

However, Nutrafin's liquid re-agent based test kits are just as good as the API ones. Six and half a dozen, I'd say.
