Hi all.

A week or so ago I bought myself an Atya (Vampire Shrimp). I have 5 real plants in my tank, and bought some Plant Gro to help them along. Since adding this my shrimp seems to have pulled his arms up to his face, and doesn't seem to be feeding as he did.

I'm a bit worried about him, could something in the plant food have affected him?

Tank is:

160L

Eheim 2213

Sand substrate.

300W of heaters (1 200W & 1 100W)

5 real plants (no idea what species tbh)

Tank has been running double zero's for the last 2 weeks, so I feel that it's properly cycled. I used all my mature media from my old tank (which had been running 3+ years to seed it).

Cheers.

wow, no idea whether certain plant ferts might be a bother to shrimp, hope somebody will know something about this...

Since I've been wanting to keep cherry shrimp I've been doing some research on shrimp in general. I remember reading somewhere that there is a specific mineral (it escapes my mind at the moment) that can soften there shells and make them very lethargic. I'll keep looking and try to find what it was. Maybe your plant food might have it in it.

I've been using high doses of this fert with Amano shrimp in my tank with no ill effect. The 3 of them are looking great and shedding as normal.
