hi

is there anyway of finding out when someone has posted in a thread you have previously posted in? i think this would be much easier than searching through and forgetting which threads you have been reading

if this is already possible can someone tell me how

thanks :good:

Go into My Controls ---> E-mail Settings ---> Enable 'Email Notification' by default?

Make sure that is ticked and in the drop down box pick 'Immediate Email Notification' or 'Delayed Email Notification'

Well I just got an e-mail popped up in my inbox to say you'd just replied here.

I have it set on immediate.
It's really useful cause I always have my e-mail opened. Whether I'm paying attention to it or not is another matter.
But when I do check I know which topics I've posted on have been replied too.

That method works but for only 4 days. If the thread goes 4 days without a new post, the email notification will cancel itself out. Of course, after 4 days it's likely going to be buried several pages deep and not get any more replies.

You can also look at the envelopes to the left of each thread:

If it is brightly colored
f_norm.gif
as opposed to dull
f_norm_no.gif
, then there are new posts.

If it has a "dot" in it
f_norm_no_dot.gif
, then you have posted on that thread.

Any thread that has a dot and is brightly colored
f_norm_dot.gif
, is one that you have posted on and it has new replies since you last posted on it.

An orange
f_hot_dot.gif
envelope means it is "hot", i.e., it has at least 10 posts on it.

I usually don't check the subscription box. I just look down the page for threads I've posted in. The subscription box does work well if you post a question that you need a quick reply on since you get an immediate email. However, if you are still logged in and online, you will not get an email since the system thinks you are still on the forum.

I think there's an option so it will send you an email anyway. I use it when im buying or selling in classifieds. I just click track this topic from the drop down menu. That way i don't forget and ignore a potential buyer. :D

You could use that if you want to track certain threads.

Thanks for the RDD, I had noticed the envelopes changed but didn't know about the dot in the middle, that will be useful :good:
