Im about to have a 10g tank just setting with nothing. Is it a bad idea to set up a 10g saltwater tank if it is my 1st saltwater tank?

All of my tanks get alot of care daily and temp is checked AT LEAST every 4-6 hours even on my freshwater.

Should i start with brackwater first to see if i think this is for me? I am very interested in the rock and setting of saltwater. Probably more so than the fish right now lol.

Thank you for reading and any advice will be taken into account.

feel free to badger me all you want for thinking of doing this. I dont want to start something that will die. But, if this is accomplishable with care, I am truly intrested in started such an adventure.

Phlawed...check out our nano section below. Look in the pinned section and check out our section members tanks..it's a relatively new pin. There are also some start up thoughts. Also. scroll on down the nano section and see if there are any links that seem interesting and peruse. :hi: to the lower half of the TFF homepage. SH

Agreed, check out the nano section :). If you have infinite reserves of patience and are capable of doing things slowly and deliberately, you can have a successful 10g. the challenges are many, so read read read

I think a moderator should move this to the nano forums where this particular user can get the best advice possible.

The only advice I will give you is look through everyone elses diary (including mine!) and see how other people have done it... research as much as possible and you should be fine.

Personally I would say that there is nothing "bad" about having a nano as your first saltwater tank BUT (yes, there is always a but, isn't there? ), only so long as you have the patience and 100% commiting attitude to research absolutely everything you can possibly think of and then some (practically a prerequisite with anything saltwater but especially with smaller systems) as well as take your time to do it right. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither does any tank have to be.

The above statement is enough to warrent any sort of badgering being unnecessary IMO, not that I personally beleive badgering is the best way to get through to someone and try to abstain from it as much as I can. You are asking advice, seem like you are fair dinkum about it and, from your post, appear willing to put in the hard yards. As such, I doubt anyone here would give you a ribbing for simply enquiring and/or eventually going ahead with a nano once you become more versed in the basics of nano upkeep and care (everyone has to start somewhere).

All in all, I agree with the others, start by having a crack at some of the posts in the nano section. This will undoubtedly whet your apetite and fill you with a ton of questions which subsequent reading, googling and further posting will help you greatly. The only other piece of advice I can think of is if in doubt, never be afraid to ask, no matter how trivial the question. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked :)
