Not Sure If Pleco Is Feeding !

Hi people
I bought an orange seam pleco just before xmas have seen him a few times but not sure if he is getting enough/any food. Every 2/3 days when the lights go out i put 2/3 algae wafers in and sometimes a nice piece of cucumber, The wafers are gone in the morning but that could be my butterfly pleco, the cucumber never seems to be touched. Am i doing right for my little fellow ? What else could i try him on to vary his diet ?

Simon, you could try feeding your plec some meaty foods such as frozen bloodworm as Baryancistrus' are omnivores. I bought some bloodworm pellet to do this as normally, the bloodworms are eaten by mid level fish before they hit the bottom so the plecs don't even get a look in. The pellets take a while to break down and gives the plecs a chance to get their gums around it.

As for the cucumber, I have 5 plecs in my 220L tank. When I put cucumber into my tank, only 2 of the plecs are interested in it. My Scobiancistrus Aureatus (Sunshine plec), Baryancistrus demantoides (Green phantom) and my Albino B/N are not interested whatsoever. I've got a baby gibbi and a larger gibbi that cane it as soon as it goes in. So I suppose it depends on the fish or what they have been feeding on previously.

I also feed Catfish pellets to vary the diet as they have a very high protein content.

Thanks for the info Chrissyboy much appreciated, Will get some catfish and bloodworm pellets and see if the little fellow will like them. I had a B/N of 5 years old up to late last year and he loved a piece of cucumber. Will let you know how things go.
