I have 15 gal and a 25 gal (pics later) the 25 has a nice fluorescent light and is really bright but the 15 has a incandescent set up and the water looks yellowish in comparison. ok time for questions...

1) Can i use the screw in fluorescent bulbs you would use in lamps (forget the name...the spiral energy saving ones...13 watt i believe. the incandescent bulbs are 15 watt) would this be too bright for the fish? I noticed neither seems to get hotter than the other so that shouldn't be a problem. I tried it out and it looks much better but i need to know if it is hazardous.

2) i just got an upside down catfish, any suggestions on feeding and getting them more active?

3) anyone know another name for an "emperor ID shark" ?

thanks for reading hope i can get some feedback :D

I know a lot of folk who use CFL... depends on if theres any cover glass etc between it and the water, if not, I would run a bead of silicon around the lamp base, so it seals against the fitting - problem is condensation, so long as you keep the contacts (both lamp and wiring) dry, you are safe.

Never had one ! Sorry... perhaps a floating food ?

Upside down catfish are nocturnal. I have one in with my puffers and I don't see it at all unless I come out late and put my blue light on. You won't really see them doing much and I doubt you will get them to be more active. When I moved the contents of one of my tanks into another tank, I had forgotten about the upside down catfish, and when I went to move an ornament, that's when I found him. I've not seen him in a month, but I'm sure he's still fine.
I'd say if you want more action, then you need to get a different type of catfish.
