My male angel has two white spots on his tail fins and my female has one. The spots look like Ich but I've been watching them for 6 weeks and there has been no change and no other symptoms of ich with these two angels or any of the other fish in this 60 gallon tank. The spots all started out a bit fuzzy on the edges but now look like ich or sand grains. I read on another site that when a fish breaks a ray in a fin, calcium deposits or scar tissue can form. These white spots appear to be on the rays rather than the soft tissue between the rays that make up a fin. The site also said that all cichlids eventually end up with these? Anyone else have this experience? Should I stop worrying? Other advice.

Yes if there is a nip or the fin bends hard you will see a white dot on the Ray of the fin you know he lines not the fin. If that makes sence.I have seen this in my larger crazy cichlids. But it's not fuzzy. Your right it's not ich from how you put it.

No need to worry, most cichlids get these from scrapes or damage to fins. If its like cotton wool and fluffy and the fins are dissapearing then treat for fin rot, but sounds normal to me.

COuld be simply fin damage, and angels are more prone to this than just about any other fish, due to their design.

Could also possibly be another type of slow growing external parasite, not ich. Keep an eye on it.

If you become more convinced that it could be parasitic, my first treatment would always be flubendazole.
