came down this morning to find vinny hiding in the corner all bashed up. watched what was going on and the rottie kept steaming into him . so it was clear id have to seperate them. As it was getting so bad i bagged the rottie while i sorted out a tmporary "holding" tank of some sort. after about 15 mins in the bag the rottie just laid on its side so i released it back into the tank where it had a kind of fit then sank to the bottom and died.

so now im minus an 8 inch rotkeil vinny who i have left his once perfect fins are all shreaded and hes hiding in the corner like a scared little boy. :oh: . i will be polite and say im not exactly chuffed!

What the hell??? There must be a reason for the sudden aggression, they have been fine up til now. Bagging the rottie shouldnt have killed him either, have you tested your water hon?

W/c will heal his fins in no time.

1st thought was maybe caused by sudden stress so tested water all as youd expect reading 0 amm and nitrite nitrate around 15. they have been fine until now . only real idea i can come up with is with 2 male sevs both easily breeding size or bigger suddenly dominence became an issue??

done water change today to help with vinnys fins. tank looks kinda empty now. i still cant get my head round how having him bagged for such a short time killed him? literally as soon as he went into the tank he kinda spazed out a bit tried to swim then just sank stone dead. the bag had tank water in it and was easily big enough.

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss! That's awful. That's crazy that he died after that...
I hope your big boy Vinny heals up soon.

Maybe it was a dominance issue, but I think something else was wrong, especially for him to have a kinda seizure afterwards.

Anyway, Im really sorry to hear this, poor Vinny and RIP Rottie :(

vinny will be ok fins should heal prety quickly. now hes realised the other sev isnt there any more hes starting to venture oiut again.

wasnt a fit as such more like he was twitching trying to swim .

either way cant un-kill him so gotta swallow it and start thinking about whats gonna fill the 8 inch gap ive got in my stock.

:rip:

soryy mate its not your fault i'd say it was just stress that caused him to die mate. is it breeding time in your tank at all? or it could just be dominance ive noticed it sometimes just comes on one day normally when one of the males is horny in alot of fish mate

could there have been something in the bag? a chemical residue or something? where do you store your bags? maybe something leaked on it?

the bag used was the same bag i got him in ( he was already that size when i got him) which was rinsed out and stored in my tank cabinet no chance of chemicals etc.

not breeding time as such as ther were no females present .

vinny is back out and about and now i can get a good look at him theres no missing scales or anything but hes only got his pelvic fins ans 1 pectoral fin untouched the rest are all torn up. anal dorsal and caudal fin all shredded at the ends and right pectoral fin is completely torn to bits.

That sucks bigtime! - sorry for your loss. If they had been fighting maybe your Rottie sustained an internal injury which just took a little time to kill him off.

very sorry for your loss...Vinny should be ok.

The rottie looks like a female to me....?

nope the rottie was deffinately male. fins dont really show that well in the photo.
