Just this past week I had posted a thread about my three bettas: Batman, Sapphire, and Survivor. I left for the weekend and came back to find Batman and Sapphire both dead. Their bodies were covered in a thick coat of Fungus meaning they died a day or two ago. I left for three days. I thought they would be alright since I fed them and changed their water. Could it have been the temperature or do you think they could have gotten a disease after I left? I feel terrible and I want Batman and Sapphire back!!!!! Survivor made it...hence how he got his name.

RIP Batman and Sapphire... :rip: :byebye:

Aww poor babies. They could have died cause of the water temperature. Betas can only change their body temp once a day. Though their is that possiblity that when you where cleaning thier tanks some germs could have gotten in the tank and formed a disease and killed your bettas.

What looks like 'fungus' can also be columnaris, a bacterial infection that is brought on by, among other things, stress and/or fluctuation in water temp (both of which can occur when doing a water change). That may be what did them in.

ETA: More information on columnaris can be found here; it should give you an idea if that's what you lost them to.

Earlier the last week (the same week I lost these two guys) I also lost two more fellas from Columaris. Damn it..

I will right after school. I have to check my lps cause we have no petsmart or petco where I go to school. The LPS is pretty ridiculous too but I will give it a shot.

Did you put these 2 in the same tanks the other 2 died in? Did you nuke them before using them?

If so, and if not, you could have passed the infection on to the 2 new guys.

Also, you should keep in mind, that after a fish dies and sits in water for a few hours..they will get a fuzzy layer on them. So them being covered in fuzz doesn't mean that's neccessarily what they died of.

I'd be interested to know where you saw that bettas can only adjust their body temp once a day..link please?

Reason I ask is...I'm sure mine adjust more then 3 times a day...as the air vent is direct;y above them and some are in unheated containers. The water temp is higher in mid afternoon when the building warms up (after it is full of bodies and the outside temp gets hotter) and is colder in the am then colder again in the late pm (after everyone leaves and it cools off outside). The temp usually ranges from 74-78 throughout the day, and mine have no problems.

Same here. Fish are cold-blooded, they don't adjust their body temperature at all, it is controlled by their surroundings.

Only one of the tanks was from the two that died before. The other one was perfectly fine. Batman had lived in it, a minibow 1, for about a month. Could they have died from no food for 2-3 days?
