OK trying to set up my first tank,
added filter, pump, heater, gravel, plants, bogwood, stress coat and stress zyme, (oh, and water!!) last Friday, now waiting to let it settle before going to get some danios.
HOWEVER- noticed this week that there's white fuzz on the wood and the surface of the water is very "bubbley" just wondering if I've got everything wrong and need to start again or what?
would appreciate any help, many thanks
Kim
ps, what an addictive site!

Just rub the white fuzz of the wood with an old tooth brush to be sure it isn't anything bad, the bubbles are normal if you have just filled the tank up it will settle, good luck.

:D Hello and welcome to fish forums.....
Can I suggest that you read the pinned topics at the top of the page to get excellent advice and info on starting out in fishkeeping? Good Luck......Its such a fun and rewarding hobby.xx.

thanks for the welcome!
I have had a good look at the pinned threads, but none of them mention bubbles or "white Fuzz" which is why I posted, sorry if if I'm being paranoid!

I always get bubbles when filling up a new tank. They're normal. The fish like to play with them after they are put in the tank ;)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The fungus is always present in the water, and it's pretty much harmless (unless its on fish!). Unless the entire driftwood is cover with fungus, I wouldn't worry.

The bubbles are most likely caused by the stress zyme. It has aloe and other natual ingredients that causes the water to foam. I think it's a good product to use for the first week. But I don't use it for subsequent water changes.

Blue Ram, you have put my mind at ease thank you!! although I would say about 70% of the wood has this white fuzz- it that too much?
also any idea where I can get just plain ammonia - so that I can cycle without fish?
thanks for your help,
Kim

The fungus occures on some wood, but it's completely harmless to the fish, even if all of it is covered. You should be able to scrub it off, and it will stop growing after a few weeks.

Heli's mum you can buy pure ammonia from chemist or hardware stores, as long as it is pure ammonia and make sure hasn't had anything else added to it

Sometimes liquid ammonia from chemists has other things added too. Apparently if you shake the bottle and a lot of foam appears, there are other chemicals present. (Ammonia is very dangerous, be careful).
