came home yesterday and one of my beloved zebra ottos has died and now i can only find 1 in the tank im sure that has died too, its been very hot here over the past week or so and the tank temp was sometimes in the 90F range i cant seem to cool it down, all other fish seem to be handling it though.....could this be a cause?

Oh so sorry for the otos :( I think the heat could have played a big part and my tanks have also been suffering in this unbritish weather! I lost a guppy this morning and the only thing I can put it down to is this heat. I have since gone out and got several fans which has brought the temp down in the fish house from a staggering 90 to around the 80 mark.

My tank got to 80 degrees so I turned the heater off. I kept an eye on it and when it dropped to 78 I turned it back on again. :)

open the hood and get a fan blowing on the surface.

Turn the lights off - these will rais e the temp a lot.

The only tank we are having problems with is our little 3gal breeder - the temp is going up and down all over the place - the smaller amount of water is less stable

ahhh 2 of them are still alive, i did a water change and used cooler water mayb this wasnt the smartest thing to do but the temp has stayed down its around 82-84 which is way better than over 90 my fish seem ok with the temp drop though i hope it has no adverse effects..fingers crossed...

:rip: little fishy... :byebye:
