Im new to cory catfishs... can some1 give me a brief run-down or guideline on these fish.
The thing im most worried about at the moment is the substrate. Because i know nothing about sand... is it very necessary for them>?

They do need a softer substrate to stop their barbels getting hurt when they are looking for food. Sand is best but small, round gravel can be ok too.

Other than that, they need to be kept in groups of 3+. These groups can be mixed kinds but only ones of a similar size will school. They need to be fed like other fish and should not be considered simply as scavengers.

i got a 2 foot tank divided for two male bettas and i was thinking about putting like a group of cories of both sides? would this be alrite? i was thinking pandas and albinos...
:D
