Hello, I have limited space and am trying to figure out a way to have a fry tank and a qt tank. I have been able to get my hands on a 10 gallon glass tank for free and would love to be able to use it for both. Here is my plan but need confirmation that it will work. Divide the 10 gallon tank in to roughly 3 gallons (for fry)and 7 gallons (QT). To divide the tank I was planing to use a solid piece of plexi rather than the plastic mesh. I would silicone the sliders to the side of the tank and then slide in the plexi. The question is will that stop water flow between the 2 sides of the tank? Basically, if I have both sides in use I don't want the fry to have the meds in their tank. I do realize that if it does stop the water flow I will need to have 2 separate filters (already have 2 sponge filters) and two heaters (I will need to buy), but I would need that anyway if I had two separate tanks. I am just not sure if the plexi would create a non permeable barrier.

Thanks

If you effectively not want any of the meds going into the other side of the tank, the water flow wont go there either.
Could you not leave the fry in your main tank(s) but provide lots of shelter from plants? or even use a small breeding trap.

I could do that, it is just that the main tank I am concerned about with fry is my 12 gallon, and I am concerned about space in that tank. The 55 gallon no problem to use a breeding trap but in the 12 gallon just not sure space wise. It is an eclipse system so anything that has to clip onto the edge of the tank doesn't do well unless I keep the hood off, which isn't ideal, and I have yet to find breeding traps/fry holders that have suction cups. But do you think using the solid piece of plexi would stop water flow between the 2 sides?

Yes most definatley.

I was going to advice a spray bar but then you might have one side overflowing, and the meds might spread too.

Best thing would be to move the fry :)

Great thanks. Hopefully I will never have to use the QT side for meds  but glad to hear that it would work if needed. I already have 2 sponge filters, 2 air stones and 2 pumps (extra stuff) so making sure filtration and aireation on both sides are good isn't really the issue. I already have a small 7.5 watt mini heater I could use for the fry side, I would just need to get a heater for the qt side, but that is not a big deal. My main concern was will it stop the water flow and you seem to think it will so I should be good with that. I started off with just 1 tank and now have 3 so my space availablity for more tanks is very limited
