I got some live food today for the Antennarius maculatus.

Despite her usually voracious appetite, the female Histrio histrio was not very interested.

Despite this, the A. maculatus was more than eager to get to the feeder shrimp.

Once the shrimp were out

The frog made short work of some. This video gives an example of how fast they strike by completely failing to catch the actual strike.

The set of photos below are at a rate of 2.2 per second (just under half a second apart). The second picture shows the very start of the strike, and by the time of the third pic the prey is well and truly engulfed and pulled back.

I never realised how big the shrimp were in comparison with the frogs, and wow, they can strike fast. Great pics and video :good:

That's awesome, thanks for sharing.

The pic of the A. maculatus up at the bag is rather humerous  .

I've no idea. Some will die on the way in, others will have been eaten by the H. histrio in there and still further were put in for the Lophiocharon sp.

I don't even know how many you get in a portion to be honest.

haha, ok, just was curious. But seeing as how he can fit something bigger than he is in his gut, figured he could atleast put away half a dozen when he's hungry

I saw him eat at least 7 or 8, but there would have been quite a few left.

Last time I fed live I think he ate about 20 or so.

And hey CFC, I see you looking down here in the SW section ;)
