I got some live food today for the Antennarius maculatus.
Despite her usually voracious appetite, the female Histrio histrio was not very interested.
Despite this, the A. maculatus was more than eager to get to the feeder shrimp.
Once the shrimp were out
The frog made short work of some. This video gives an example of how fast they strike by completely failing to catch the actual strike.
The set of photos below are at a rate of 2.2 per second (just under half a second apart). The second picture shows the very start of the strike, and by the time of the third pic the prey is well and truly engulfed and pulled back.
