Can anyone answer a question regarding my filter? I currently have an UGF and an internal power filter(submersible) in my tank. Both are new.The IPF is really noisy-mostly from the airline. We live in a really quiet rural area and my better half and kids are whingeing about the noise. It's really only an issue at night. if I was to turn of the IPF at night would I kill the beneficial bacteria?Hope someone can give me some advice.

Is it noisy due to kicking out bubbles? Some IPF allow you to submerse it comlpetely so as to stop any bubbles.
What make/model is it?

IPF, airline? Internal power filters shouldn't need an airline...its UGFs that need an airline...I'm confused...As above, what make/model is the filter? Are you sure its not the UGF pump making the noise?

Thanks! No ,its definitly not the U G F thats noisy.I'm at my office at the moment :*) and cannot remember the brand name of the internal power filter right now. It goes inside the tank, under the water. It has canisters with foam filters (up to 4 can be "stacked" ) at its base. It also has a directional nozzle which blows air into the water-hence the air line which comes of the top of the unit and hangs outside the tank.Maybe the family will have to get used to it. After all, I can't hear anything over Hubby"s snoring .

You should get a filter by whisper. They are so quiet. They make no sound at all i use them on my 20 gallon's. Whisper power filters are the best they make like a water fall and its so kool. You should deff. get one and see the diff.

Why not remove the airline from the IPF. Also, why do you have a UGF as well? If the UGF is noisy, get rid of it. The IPF can handle it just fine :)
You do not need to have the IPF blowing air into the water, it isn't necessary so you could plug that airline and lose the noise made by the bubbles :)

assuming the UGF is air driven then this will be providing more than enough air into the water. I'd just pull the air line off the IPF if I was you.

the filter is a cascade if it has blue canasters or green ones then it is a cascade try and turn off the air pump the filter should still work fine without the airline also if you want the bubbles in your tank get an algarde bubble bar they look nice i have one in my tank.

hope this helps.
