Just read a post about feeding and this popped up in my head..

How does one feed nocturnal fish in a community tank?

The rest of the community get fed in daylight hours and hoover it all up, but that leaves none for the fish hiding under and inside hollow rocks all day long?
I'm not sure what they are but they look like catfish, they're mottled black with white spots and their pectoral fins are very hard like bone. I only see them when I need to move a rock, they're about 8cm long each ( there are two in the tank )

If your two fish are plecostomus, they are algae eaters and don't need the flake food the other fish take. Plecos love algae wafers. If they are cats and eat normal food but only at night, they're still able to find enough food. I've got several types of cats, some of whom don't ever come out in the daytime, and they are fat and healthy. My guess is that, with flow from a good filter, enough food finds its way into the nooks and crannies where they are hiding during the day so they get some to eat. And there almost certainly is some leftover food that hasn't been gotten by all the others nestled into the gravel or other places, and the cats get that when they come out.

Put the food for them in after the tank lights have gone out. If you sit quietly with just the room light on, you might well see them come out to feed.

Could they be spotted talking catfish? You really do need to get a positive ID on them to know what the best diet for them is; some catfish are vegetarian, whereas others prefer meatier foods.

They could get quite poorly or even die if they don't get the right food.

I have 3 synodontis lucipinnis catfish that feed at night. I have my tank lights set to go off about 10 minutes or so before I normally go to bed. Once the other fish have settled for the night I throw 4-5 tetra wafers or a chunk of cucumber etc. in the tank. The synos are straight on it and theres never anything left in the morning :)

I'll try to get a photo tomorrow by lifting the rock they sleep under/inside.
They do tend to hang onto it though so it's a ticky job :)
