hey..i have a 10 gallon, planted with 4 medium spathiphyllum floribundum, some java moss, 1 java fern, small lotus, and guppy grass (dyeing), and floating pennywort.

it has some flourite and gravel in the bottom.

the male has made the nest, the female is full of eggs and wont cooperate! the male swims to the female and back to the nest and she just hides! it is sad realy......

i have IAL in the tank too, it is on the bottom of the tank under the nest.

they have been released together since last night. the girl isnt beat-up. her fins are only a little nicked. i think this is a prety clueless couple! they wont wrap! :shout:

Hi

Firstly, you need to remove the gravel. Otherwise the eggs will all fall through the cracks and the male wont find them.

How long have you had the female in a chimney with the male, and how long have you conditioned them for?

2 years ago (i was 12) i bought a male and female betta and they did it right away! i just put them into the 2 gallon tank,(the permanant home, LFS told me it was fine, i have learned alot since then!)

Hi

Are these the ones from Betty Splendens? If so, I wouldn't of tried spawning them yet as they would have been stressed by travelling. You're going to have to remove them anyway to get the gravel out, so i would personally give them a couple of weeks on bloodworm and good pellets 3 times a day to get them really conditioned. Do this where they cant see eachother, otherwise they will remain in a stressed state.

If these are the Betty splenden ones, then you ought to read the recent threads about spawning new fish.

they arent from her. they are from my lfs, so remove all gavel?

wont the IAL under the nest keep the eggs out of the gravel?

Ah cool :good:

I would still remove them and get the gravel out. Thats pretty basic stuff, so may i suggest you do a bit more research. There's a section on breeding in our website in my siggie.

Feed them up for a couple of weeks and you'll have a lot more success :good:

I say give it awhile. My last pair took almost 3 days to wrap- They just need some time to get to know each other.

Conditioning is vital, this gives you time to observe and note things down and learn about the bettas that ou will prob breed from again. Knowing the betta is half the job done, each one has a different way of spawning and reacts differently, but a simple understanding of them in the first place helps alot.

If you've learnt alot, then please excuse me for agreeing with bronze that you've done it the wrong way and the learning was wasted.

No, they need more time to be conditioned more!

It may catch a few, but when the eggs hatch the fry fall to the bottom too, and will get stuck.

thanks! i will try my best!

also my mother wanted me to just try the thai way because she said it was quicker what does she mean? she said just dont use my tuperware?

PLEASE take bronzecat's comments to heart. I have never bred bettas, but I used to breed angelfish and tried it at first with gravel in the tank - lost WAY more babies than I needed to. After that, bare bottom tanks all the way for breeding!!!!
