i just switched from plastic plants to some elkhorn java fern and my bettas love it! i catch them weaving in and out of the plants and resting on the leaves. the best thing is when they snag a leaf on their fins, the leaf gives! if anyone is having issues with torn fins and it's not due to aggression, i highly suggest some live plants! :D :fun: B)

I personally think that all fish prefer live plants and they look so much nicer in the tank. Glad your beta's enjoying himself :D

I need to get some money so I can get some silk plants for my boys. :( Poor Tonka's fins are all ripped up. :( My new boy Dusty has yet to rip his (knock on wood) so I think the one I have in with him is fine...but I would still like to get some silk ones. It would help my peace of mind.

Sounds cool! Yay for your fishies! I'd like to try live plants. However, I'm going to try and get my aquarium and fish "stabilized" first, then I'll work on plants.

I see you have a 2.5 gallon MiniBow. I have a 5 gallon MiniBow. I wanted blue, but they didn't have any blue ones, so I have teal. In the few weeks since I've gotten the 5 gallon, I've added a one gallon and a 10 gallon (neither are MiniBows). Something tells me I'm hooked...(uh, no pun intended!). Apparently fish are addictive, kind of like goats.

I have a Java Fern in my 2.5 gallon Minibow betta tank too! My betta loooves it, he's always swimming between the leaves and such. My cories seem to enjoy it too - they're always scanning it for lil bits of food. And, I've got a new leaf! yippee! lol sounds like no big deal, but I'm excited! You'll understand once you get one, good luck with the live plant thing!

Live plants also help to keep your tank stable - they use nitrate, which is the end product of the cycle. They're also cheaper than silk (anyway, they are round here where I live) so why not try them first?

i've got two one gal. glass bowls with a betta in each and lots of plants. i plan on upgrading their tanks when i get the chance. i've got a lot of elk horn java that is really interesting and my bettas love it. it's hard to find but worth it.
