Ok I looked online today for fish food and found the NLS sinking pellets thera a is at petco while the hikari Frozen brine shrimp is at petsmart. Which should I go for? Also what are some equal alternative for the frozen food at petco if I choose NLS and vice versa?

I don't want to go to both stores

I think most will say NLS..I only use Hikari for my shrimp as I've found their Crab Cuisine to be the best for shrimp but their other fish food isn't as good as NLS(based on what I've read in the ingredient list). You don't have to feed frozen food, I never have and I have old, healthy fish but many people like to give that kind of variety so I'm sure someone can give you some good quality frozen food suggestions.

Ok so if I go for NLS, which frozen or if not freeze dried food should I go for?

NLS is good enough that it can be fed exclusively without the need for additional foods.

So NLS already has the stuff frozen food does already? Is that your point? Also Im just making sure, isn't feeding a staple diet along with a treat better? Sorry I'm just making sure

Nutritionally, NLS contains everything, whether or not the fish would enjoy a different food is a different matter, but all of my fish have eaten the NLS with no problems so far.

Ditto. The main goal of any diet is complete and balanced nutrition. NLS provides this in every bite. If you use NLS there is almost never a need for any other variety or supplementation. NLS exclusively is healthier than NLS and anything else.

Just a note, the opinions on NLS are just that, one person's opinions. If this were in fact the case and it were widely accepted you should see a whole lot more folks saying this on all sorts of aquatic forums all over the net. So far, the only places I have seen this said are on this forum and on the New Life Spectrum Site.

What I do know is those who champion NLS the most strongly also seem equally committed to the idea that NLS should be the only food to feed to the exclusion of all else. I have to hand it to the sales/promotional people who came up with this: Our food works best when it is the only food one feeds.

I do use NLS Discus and Growth foods, but they are part of an extensive and varied menu.

I do agree with the above, I still vary diet as I feel that it's always nice to enrich the fish in some way, after all they appear to enjoy chasing around live food rather than hovering around a pellet.

I disagree. I have seen this on almost every forum I have ever been on (this site being the weakest to support NLS).

I do not simply take any company's propaganda as fact. I suggest NLS, and suggest it exclusively, based on repeated success with many types of fish over and over and over again with almost no exceptions. In every situation the fish do better on NLS exclusively than anything else I have tried or seen them on.

IME the people who argue against it the most are people who have not truly tried it exclusively. If you have not tried feeding NLS exclusively for at least a few months IMO you cannot speak from experience. When people finally do break down and give it a try they become converts and just as 'extreme' as other NLS supporters.

We can argue about this day after day in thread after thread, but at the end of it all you cannot know how good it really is, or is not, until you try feeding it exclusively for at least a few months. Worst case you find out you somehow already had a very good diet and do not need to feed NLS exclusively. Your fish deserve this trial.

In all honesty, a person shouldn't even need proof that it's a top quality food because a person only has to look at the ingredients to know that it's going to be good for them. Coming from a holistic nutrition stand point, as soon as I saw the ingredients, I knew that it was better than any of the other foods I've seen. After all, fish in the wild don't eat wheat gluten and corn and all the other garbage that is in most other brands of fish food. All a person has to do is compare the ingredients of NLS to other brands and it becomes very clear which is the better choice. I have only recently switched to NLS after for years feeding my fish Tetramin, and I still feed it to my catfish(for now) until the old food is gone. It wasn't until I became interested in holistic nutrition that I started reading the labels of my food, my cat's food and now fish food. So all the people out there who wonder how good it is, just compare the ingredients and think about what fish eat. Wheat by-products? I think not. But having said all that, I do feed freeze dried blood worm and daphnia as an occasional treat. And my shrimp get Hikari...I don't like NLS for shrimp personally.

Why do I get the impression that you want to personally come to my house to feed my fish NLS exclusively? Do you get a bonus at the end of the year? ;)
