Hope you will excuse the thread title, but I read on the site somewhere a few years ago where someone - was it Bigbruiser Al? (do forgive me if I'm wrong there) was using a cutting off a plant which was reducing their nitrate levels in the tank; was it called Pochos or something like that - sorry to be so vague, newbie here! Anyway, I can't find the thread and wondered if this plant proved OK for the tank it was in effect being tested in i.e. didn't prove toxic to the fishes?

If no-one can shed light on this one, is there a floating plant that does this, as my tap water has readings of around 40ppm which I would like to reduce using floating plants if possible - I want floating plants anyway to provide lower lighting levels for my planned JD tank, ones which it will be safe for the fish to eat, which he and his tank buddies doubtlessly will (so fast-growing as well preferably, and low-relief as there is a lid on the tank)!

Any advice appreciated as always! :good:

40ppm should be manageable. Mine is around the 20-40ppm mark.

As above - frogbit might help, and it grows happily in pretty much any conditions. How much it will lower the nitrate will ultimately depend on how heavily your tank is stocked.

As SO19 said tho, 40ppm isn't bad for a tank with plants, Riccia will do it too tho.
