In a 10 gal. with a couple of ottos and ADFS. Oh yea, and one betta... Because I was reading up on some website and they said it was alright as long as they aren't too big, so I was just wondering if any of you have tried it... I thought they'd need a 1/2 and 1/2 of water and substrate, but I could be wrong...

Cheers,

So if I keep the ADFs in another tank? Then will it be alright? Or will the fish suffer too?

Yea you can keep newts with non-aggressive fish which are big enough not to be eaten by the newt - the frogs are much more sensitive to the newt's skin secretions than fish.

Thanks for the info. Trying to find some newts here, I know my lfs used to have a few, but they must have sold them all. Fire-bellied newts I think they were. Do they need any special features like a cave or plants to be comfortable?

Cheers,

Not with ADFs, the secretions from the Newt's skin will poison the sensitive little frog.
??????????? where did you hear this
UI have heard not too keep them toghether cause they will eat each other but that's it. I have a newt frog whitecloud minow tank. And would suggest a comunity like this to others the newts just aren't active and seem afraid of the fish so don't go into the water

So don't go into the water? Uh... What's this supposed to mean?

It's well-known ADFs are very very sensitive to chemicals in the water, and equally known that many newts produce secretions of some sort. So putting the two together it's not worth the risk. Some newts, like fire newts, actually have pretty damn potent stuff in them (if you're a frog, that is).

My Newts are oriental firbellies and I meant that all the do is climb the glass and sit on the rocks instead of swimming around as I have heard of others doing
